Fall Home Maintenance

Each year when fall arrives, I have a few regular things on my to-do list that ensure my home and yard are in good shape as the weather starts to turn cold.

Here are my top fall home maintenance tips:

1. Replace Your HVAC Filter

Filters are different sizes and have different degrees of filtration. Always check the manufacturer's instructions. The degree of filtration is defined by the MERV rating and is listed on the packaging. Generally, a lower MERV rating combined with changing the filter more regularly is the best course of action. Here's what I use

**If you buy at Home Depot, make sure to keep an eye out for bulk pricing. Usually, if you buy 4 or more they are about 50% off!**

2. Service Your Furnace

It’s always a good idea to have your furnace checked and serviced before the start of the cold season. Make sure to check our last couple emails our coupon with Harding HVAC to receive $20 off your next service through 12/10/24.

3. Treat for Bugs

As the weather gets cooler our bug friends outside tend to try to move inside, which means its the perfect time to treat your perimeter for pests. This could mean doing it yourself with a similar product to this one. Alternatively, you could call Cory at Laser Pest Management and have them do all of the work for you.

4. Prep Your Lawn

If you’re trying to keep up with your yard, now is the time to dethatch, overseed, and fertilize. Dethatching will take the layer of dead grass and organic material (thatch) off the ground, which you can then rake. Dethatching has its own benefits, but also exposes the soil so that you can overseed. You can fertilize whether or not you dethatch. Here are links to the products I like to use: dethatch, overseed, fertilize.

It's going to feel so good when you get these done!
