Shorten Your Window Blinds

When your blinds fit your window perfectly, you'd be surprised the aesthetic difference it makes.

Not to mention, blinds that are way too long are more prone to break by continually hitting the windowsill or floor.

Supplies you'll need:
  • scissors
  • flathead screwdriver or a knife
  • patience

Step-by-Step Instructions (and a video below!):

  1. Remove the plugs along the the base of the bottom blind. Blinds vary; many will have three plugs with the outer two plugs connected to the cord that raises and lowers the blinds. Some blinds have more plugs overall and more than two connected to the cord.
  2. Cut the cord where connected to a plug. This will allow the blinds to stretch fully.
  3. Cut the strings holding the blinds to your desired height. You will want to cut in a way that leaves the extra inch or so of string under the blind of your desired height.
  4. Replace the now bottom blind with the thicker base.
  5. Thread the cord through the base blind and slide on the plug.
  6. Tie the cord with the plug at your desired height.
  7. Insert the plug back into the base blind WITH the extra string you left from step 3. The string will just be smashed into the hole with the plug. (will not go through the plug)
  8. Do the same with the rest of the plugs.
  9. Congrats on your new custom blinds!
