However, these elements are what makes the house a home - and they can make a huge difference in the way you feel in the space. Take inventory of what you still love - then hunt for those items it’s time to move on from. Turn off that big overhead light, and surround yourself with ambient lighting. It’s a great time to take yourself out and [buy something pretty](https://www.rootskcmo.com/) to bring that spark back. A new plant always brings new life (and fresh air!) to a space. Pothos, Snake Plants, and Begonias are rather beginner friendly and will give you something to do in these slower months. **Add some finishing touches** Once you’ve been in your house a while, you learn what functions and what could use some fluffing. I am a big fan of decorative boxes, pots, bowls - really [any little dish](https://www.theobjectenthusiast.com/products/speckled-pink-cream-bowl-4) to help create a designated space for those items that need a designated spot. My remotes reside in a cigar box on the coffee table - my matches in a brass and glass box. My keys rest in a glass chalice. This is a great way to add in some interesting pieces AND get those less desirable items tucked away. See what needs a refresh and find them their perfect match. **Freshen up** Clean that closet. Organize that drawer. Get the mop out and murphy oil those wood floors. Candles, incense, essential oil diffusers, and even plug in fragrance make your space only more desirable. I prefer scents leaning toward santal, cashmere, and sometimes even spicy with some black pepper. They feel calm, clean, and cozy - and my brain now knows the smell of home and relaxes the moment I walk in the door. This season, take the time to enjoy your home and remind yourself of all the reasons you fell in love with it. Everyone needs some sprucing every now and then.
